Back on the beautiful Côte d’Azur
Hi Everybody
We were only able to be in LesAdrets d’ Esterel for just a week this year but as ever we loved to be back in this very special part of the world for us.
We weren’t able to travel a lot due to my current mobility issues but that gave me the opportunity to paint some watercolours from my extensive library of Provence photos and previous sketch ideas.
So here are the watercolours that I did manage to paint which I hope you will enjoy.
Our house was not too far from Thoule sur Mer, a lovely but very busy town on the wonderful coast road from Cannes to St Maxime. This road is one the finest coastal roads with great views at every turn.
I am always keen to paint a new version of the wonderful town of Antibes and so here is the 2026 version in a somewhat different style from my usual but I hope still capturing the colours of this town so popular with both Renoir and Monet well over 100 years ago.
Lookng down on to St Tropez.
we flew to Nice for our holiday this year but I always love to think of the Provence hillside farms of previous car journies through the hills and mountains that you pass by.. lavender fields anf nowaday fields covered in wild flowers apper as if by magic as you whizz by.
Finally as a project I have been painting slightly more carefully produced paintings from the sketches made
This one was thus painted on our beautiful balcony which looked over the Bay of Cannes.
This is Agios Stephanos in Corfu, painted in the warmth of the Côte d ‘Azur!

Happy Travelling
Brian
A great sunny week in delightful Corfu
Hi Everybody
We have just returned from really lovely week in Corfu, a warm and very sunny Greek Island in the Mediterranean.
We stayed at the IKOS Dassia resort which is excellent ,with many pools, restaurants and a lovely beach by the warm sparkling sea. Great staff to, thanks Alex! especially.
Time, in between just chilling out, to paint a few watercolour sketches, the first of which I hope to repaint in the studio as a larger watercolour.
This first sketch was painted from photos taken on a boat trip along the stunning coast and is of a bay near Agios Stephanos on the north coast of the island.
This our second visit to Corfu, and it won’t we hope be our last.
Everyone is very friendly and the food and drink excellent. Corfu has somewhat chaotic airport but mainly because it is so busy with visitors, however the staff there were all great too.
In this sketch I have left out the sunbeds on the lovely sandy beach at Dassia.
Albania is only a few kilometres away across the blue green sea!
There are many little seaside towns around the Corfu coast and in between then little coves , with sea caves and that wonderful clear azure blue water teaming with fish!
Maybe next time we will explore more that this lovely island has to offer
Last year we visited Corfu town and here is one of the sketches from that visit
We really enjoyed Corfu, well worth a visit!
Enjoy you travels too
Brian
Hot and lovely in Corfu
Having just returned from over week in Corfu I can report that it is a delightful island, with delightful people and a great place to unwind!
We stayed in IKOS Dassia, a lovely resort right on a golden beach with warm sea water to enjoy a swim in. Great pools, restaurants and bars too, all very relaxing.
We did visit Corfu Town twice and enjoyed its busy and intriguing little streets and squares filled with lovely cafes and shops. And only a little touring about but enough to capture a few scenes to paint some sketches of this area of the island.
It was too hot to paint in the glare of the sun but our terrace provided lovely shade for some afternoon sketches.
A boat trip gave me some good scenes of Corfu town from the sea, showing how close Corfu is to Albania.
So here are few sketches which I hope will one day result in somee larger studio paintings.
Ihope you will enjoy seeing my efforts!
Happy Travelling and painting!
